Prioritizing Safety: Reflecting on the Fickling 2023 Safety Meeting

At Fickling Construction, we believe in placing the safety and well-being of our employees above all else. On June 7th, 2023, we gathered for our annual Safety Meeting, a crucial event that allowed us to reinforce our commitment to maintaining a secure and healthy work environment. With a comprehensive agenda that focused on essential safety topics, this meeting was a great opportunity to strengthen our safety practices and foster a culture of well-being.

Current Year EMR: Demonstrating Our Collective Safety Efforts

One significant highlight of the Safety Meeting was acknowledging our current year’s Experience Modification Rate (EMR), which stands at 0.77. This achievement reflects the dedication and teamwork of our entire workforce in upholding safety standards and fostering a secure workplace.

Justin Smith from Sunbelt Rentals: Enhancing Employee Training

During the meeting, we had the privilege of introducing Justin Smith, an esteemed representative from Sunbelt Rentals. Justin has been instrumental in providing our employees with training on crucial safety aspects such as Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP), Forklift operations, and fall protection. With his expertise, we continue to empower our team with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure a safe and secure working environment for all.

Emphasizing Safety Best Practices:

Throughout the Safety Meeting, we emphasized critical safety practices that form the cornerstone of our construction operations. Here are some key topics that were discussed:

Construction Hazards:

Construction sites present various hazards that can pose risks to workers. It’s crucial to be aware of the top four causes of construction fatalities: Falls, Struck-By incidents, Caught-In/Between accidents, and Electrocutions. By understanding these hazards, we can implement preventive measures to safeguard our team members and minimize the occurrence of accidents.

Proper Use of Tools:

Tools are an integral part of our work, and using them correctly is vital for safety. It’s essential to follow manufacturer guidelines and maintain tools regularly to ensure their proper functioning. By using tools responsibly and efficiently, we can reduce the risk of accidents and injuries on our worksites.

Construction Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

Personal Protective Equipment plays a crucial role in safeguarding workers from potential hazards. Wearing the appropriate PPE, such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots, provides a crucial layer of protection. By consistently utilizing proper PPE, we prioritize the well-being of our team members and create a safer working environment.

Maintaining a Clean Workplace:

A clean and organized work area is essential for safety. By keeping our worksites free from clutter and obstructions, we minimize the risk of trips, slips, and falls. Regular housekeeping practices, including promptly removing debris and maintaining clear pathways, contribute to a safer work environment for all.

Cultivating Healthy Relationships:

Building positive relationships and fostering a culture of collaboration and open communication is essential for safety. By encouraging teamwork, respect, and the sharing of safety concerns, we create an environment where hazards can be identified and resolved promptly. Cultivating healthy relationships at work promotes a supportive atmosphere and enhances overall safety.

At Fickling, we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety. By implementing these best practices and prioritizing safety in every aspect of our work, we create an environment where our team members can thrive without compromising their well-being. Through continuous training, ongoing communication, and a collective dedication to safety, we strive to ensure that everyone returns home safely at the end of each day. Together, we build a safer future for our team, our clients, and our communities.
